Although John Hurt might not be a new artist, he has been a key influence on some of the most famous and talented artists in the area of folk. Some of these artists being Doc Watson, John Fahey and Dave Van Ronk. I fell in love with Hurt after hearing his song “My Creolle Bell”. 2 other songs I would recommend is “Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor” and “Richland Woman Blues”. Although the lyrics are so simple, the way it was sung is filled with soul and I could feel every single word he was saying.

Mississippi John Hurt is a very unique blues artist, more on the folk side. The only other blues artist that comes to mind that might be similar to him is Elizabeth Cotten. His music is so easy to listen to and fun to play on guitar. Although many didn’t recognize his talent until he was late in age, his music still lives on and continues to inspire others.

After moving to New Jersey and starting school in New York, the first thing I had to do was get a job.  I found a cute Italian restaurant and knew immediately I had to work there. Last Thursday night I was waitressing and met a man named Drew Eckmann. When we started talking I mentioned that I was majoring in Music Business. He says “Oh really because I put on live shows in my living room”. At first I was skeptical but after researching Drew has been on Fuse Tv, featured in the NY times, and written about by previous artists who have been there. He’s had bands play there for almost 20 years now and is well known for what he does. Because of him inviting me to come to the shows and meet the artists and their managers, I’ve now made connections that will start my career! I appreciate everything and Drew Eckmann deserves a whole lot of recognition!

Lollapalooza 2013 was the first festival I had ever gone to, being only 15 it was very overwhelming but exciting at the same time. I saw Wild Belle, The Mowglis, Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend, and Phoenix. The crowd for Vampire Weekend was very intense but made the experience even better! Phoenix also but on a great show and after seeing those two bands play live for the first time I became a huge fan! 1093296_551349058235708_207173386_o-1

My love for live shows started when I went to see Two Door Cinema Club at the Rivera in downtown Chicago on October 18th in 2013. The crowd was one of the best I’ve seen! They are great at interacting with the audience and making it an experience I will never forget!
